Dropped Anchor


Dropped Anchor is in a very central position between The Lizard Peninsula and Lands End Peninsula on the south Cornwall coast, close to many wonderful Towns and villages, beautiful beaches, amazing coast line, National Trust Properties and places of interest. The coastal path and the new West Kernow Way cycle route are both only a short distance away.

Towns & Villages

There are many wonderful Towns and villages close to Dropped Anchor. Ashton is the closet village just 1 mile from the site which has a lovely pub serving food. The beautiful Harbour town of Porthleven is just 2 miles away, with many lovely shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes.


St Ives is approx. 14 miles away with its white sandy beaches and quirky cobbled streets.


Falmouth with its wonderful Harbour and the maritime museum is approx. 12 miles.


Truro with is cathedral, hospital, ancient streets and  many shops is approx 20 miles.


Penzance has a lovely harbour and the amazing St Michael's Mount on its door step.

Helston is lovely Cornish town which holds the wonderful Flora day each May well worth a visit.

Beautiful Beaches

There are endless beautiful beaches here on the south coast, the closet to the Dropped Anchor is Rinsey cove, Praa sands and Porthleven, with a small journey in the car you have Kenneggy sands, Perranuthnoe, Marazion, Church cove, Dollar cove, Poldu cove, Sennen, Porthcurno the list goes on, then not forgetting the beautiful beaches of St Ives and Hayle.


The famous Kyannce cove is about 12 miles away with its stunning beach.

National Trust

There are many lovely National trust properties in Cornwall one of the most famous is St Michael's Mount Marazion Nr Penzance, such a great place to visit walking across the tidal causeway or takin the ferry boat, (the top of the mount can be seen in the distance form the campsite)


There is the Penrose Estate which is only 5 miles from the campsite make a truly lovely walk or cycle, Godolphin is only a few miles inland with a historic house and gardens.


There are many mining attractions including the famous Poldark mine and The Cornish Heritage Collection at Helston.


There is much of the coastal path which is owned and preserved by the national trust. Please search on the National Trust Website for more attractions in Cornwall.


Places of interest

There are so many wonderful places of interest to visit

The Minack Theatre is just a truly amazing place to visit with having the dramatic, beautiful backdrop of Porthcurno beach, visit there website and book yourself a performance there it will certainly be one of the highlights of your holiday. (picture)


The telegraph museum also at Porthcurno is another wonderful place visit.


Helston Museum is an ideal attraction on a rainy day with the added benefit of free entry.


Charlestown Shipwreck Centre is worth a visit and to see the enchanting harbour with its tall ships.

 
Tehidy woods is a fabulous place to take the woofs or just a pleasant walk taking in the natural beauty.

Tourist Attractions

 There are many amazing attractions in Cornwall.

 The Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is a wonderfull place to visit for the whole family. (picture)


Flambards Theme Park in Helston is a day full of adventure and excitement.


The Eden Project is about 1 hours drive from the campsite but is defiantly worth a day out with some truly amazing plants.


The Lost gardens of Heligan is a great day out and considered to be one of the most popular gardens in the UK.

Healey's Cornish Cider Farm is also fun for all the family visit the animals, tractor trailer rides and watch the cider being made.


Paradise Park is a lovely wildlife sanctuary with an indoor play centre for the kids.


Lizard Peninsula

Lizard point is the most southerly point in the UK with its pretty village and lighthouse.


There are many truly beautiful villages all with there pretty thatched cottages, small coves and beautiful coastline like Cadgwith, Mullion, Gweek, Coverack and St Keverne.

Or visit Helford and ramble along the beautiful river past its many pretty coves whilst watching the boats bobbing on the water. The Helford village it’s self is so idyllic and the thatched Ship Wrights arms is a perfect stop for glass or 2.


The beaches and coves on the Lizard Peninsula are truly breathtaking, Church cove, Poldhu, Polurrian, Kynance, Dollar, Coverack and Kennack sands are to name but a few.


Poltesco has a small visitor centre with remains of an old serpentine factory.


Roskillys ice cream farm is defiantly worth a visit not only for the amazing delicious ice cream but for the farm animals and woodlands walk past pools and on to the coastal path.


The Chocolate factory at Mullion with its many craft work shops (mmmm which chocolate to choose)

Lands End Peninsula

Lands End the most south westerly point in the the UK with many family attractions craft workshops, galleries and stunning scenery. 


Levant Mine is a great place to visit & see the working Beam Engine.


Geevor Tin Mine with its exciting underground trips.


Lands End has its its own airport for trips to the Scilly Isles or catch the ferry from Penzance.


Porthcurno Beach and the Minack Theatre is defiantly worth a visit.


Mousehole is a charming village with is winding streets and small harbour.


Sennen with its fabulous beaches is a well known Surfing spot.

 

Water Fun

With the amazing coast line that Cornwall has you just have to make he most of the turquoise blue sea with many places offering surfing lessons, kayak adventures, paddle boarding and body boarding.


Fishing trips and sight seeing trips.


Many of the beaches having life guards so safe swimming and wave jumping is a must.
